MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 25th, 2025) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team is officially moving on in the Sun Conference Tournament after defeating
Warner University in the Quarterfinals 89-62. The Bobcats were led by
Joey Delancy who finished the match up with 16 points, followed by three other members of the team finished in the double figures.
The Bobcats kicked off the game hot in quarter one, outscoring the Royals 24-14. Sophie began her double-double performance with eight points and four rebounds in the first. St. Thomas kept the momentum in the second quarter, putting up another 21 points to Warner's 13. The Bobcats went 60% in field goals and 50% from beyond the arc.
Madison Lippy and
Samantha Vales led the charge in quarter two, with five points apiece. St. Thomas led 45-27 heading into the break.
St. Thomas continued to soar after halftime, scoring 29 points in the third quarter and holding the Royals to 14 points.
Jaliyah Weekes had a stellar third quarter, putting up 10 points, going 4-5 in field goals. Warner managed to outscore St. Thomas in the final quarter, holding the Bobcats to only 15 points to their 21. The Bobcats maintained the lead,
Morgan Taylor putting up seven points in the quarter. Taylor finished the match up in the double figures with 10 points, alongside Weekes with 13, Vandyke with 12, and Delancy with 16. The Bobcats ultimately defeated the Royals 89-62, moving on to the Semifinals of the Sun Conference Tournament.Â
Up next, the Bobcats will head down the road to face off against second-seeded Southeastern University on Friday, February 28th at 4 p.m. The meeting will take place in the FMU Wellness Center on the campus of Florida Memorial University.
