#19 Bobcats Go 2-0 Against Lynn in Season Opener

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 8, 2025) - The #19 St. Thomas University (STU) Softball team faced off against NCAA DII Lynn University in their home opener on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats defeated the Fighting Knights in both match ups, bringing their overall record to 2-0 to kick off the season. 

Game One: St. Thomas 6, Lynn 1
  • The Fighting Knights were the first to score in the first inning, putting up one run.
  • The Bobcats responded in the second inning when Kaitlyn Martinez grounded out to short, advancing Sydnee Fordham and scoring Maggie Kirk.
  • The Bobcats took the lead in inning two, just one at-bat later when Victoria Navarro flew out to left, but brought Fordham home.
  • STU put up two more runs in the third, Gabriella Gilbert scoring Isabella Andujar and Bianca Palacios scoring Anna Toon to make it 4-1.
  • St. Thomas secured two more runs in the sixth, Mya Achenbach scoring Fordham and and Emma Edwards to make the score 6-1.
  • Anna Toon earned her first win of the season in game one, recording five strikeouts and six innings pitched.
Game Two: St. Thomas 7, Lynn 3
  • STU brought the heat in game two, putting up four runs in the bottom of the first inning, starting with Toon who doubled to left center, scoring Fordham. Gilbert then singled to center field, bringing Toon home. Navarro then doubled through the left side scoring Jade Fayad and Gilbert to bring the score to 4-0.
  • Lynn attempted to mount a comeback over the next 5 innings, scoring two runs in the third and adding another in the fifth. 
  • The Bobcats kept up the fight to secure the win, putting up four more runs in the bottom of the sixth starting with Andujar who brought in a run from Fordham. An error during Toon's at-bat led to two more runs for the Bobcats, one from Andujar and another from Natalie Kopicova, bringing the score to 7-3.
  • Melody Vizcaino earns the win in this match up, recording four strikeouts and four innings pitched.
Up next, the Bobcats will host a double header against Oklahoma Wesleyan University on Wednesday, February 12th at 4 and 6 p.m.
