MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 10, 2025) - The #19 St. Thomas University (STU) Softball team faced off against the
Indiana Institute of Technology on Monday evening in a doubleheader match up. The Bobcats defeated the Warriors in both meetings, defeating them in five innings each time, bringing STU's overall record to 18-3 before heading back into conference play at Coastal Georgia.
Game One: St. Thomas 9, Indiana Tech 0:
- Anna Toon kicked it off for the Bobcats with a double to center field, scoring Mya Achenbach.
- Isabella Andujar and Bianca Palacios kept the momentum, Andujar with a sacrifice grounder to short shop, bringing Toon home, and Palacios notching a double of her own to bring home Gabriella Gilbert. STU led 3-0 at the end of the third against the Warriors.
- The home run derby began in the third inning and would continue on into game two. Andujar homered to center field, bringing Gilbert home to put the Bobcats up 5-0. Victoria Navarro then homered over the left field fence in the fourth inning to put STU up 6-0.
- Gilbert continued her stellar game one performance in the fourth with a double of her own and some smart baserunning that brought her home once again.
- The Bobcats ultimately defeated the Warriors in a shutout victoriy, 9-0.
- Toon notched the victory for this game, bringing her record to 11-1. She notched four strikeouts, bringing her even closer to the 100 strikeout mark.
Game Two: St. Thomas 11, Indiana Tech 2:
- Indiana Tech was the first to get on the board in top of the first inning with a single through the right side to go up 1-0. The Warriors continued to extend their lead in the second with another run off a single and bases loaded.
- St. Thomas was quick to respond, starting with Natalie Kopicova's single to left center and Jamiellet Rodriguez cruising home to put the Bobcats on the board. Navarro then brought in Bre'Asia Thomas to tie up the score.
- The home run derby from game one spilled over into game two, when Achenbach and Kaitlynn Martinez hit back-to-back homers, bringing in a total of four runs to put the Bobcats up 6-2.
- The second inning closed out with Gilbert and Andujar scoring on Warrior errors to put STU up 8-2.
- The Bobcats reached double figures in the bottom of the third when Toon recorded another double, hitting the ball down the right side, bringing home Achenbach and Alahnis Berrios, making the score 10-2.
- St. Thomas added on last run with another run from Thomas during Martinez' at-bat, making the score 11-2. The Warriors attempted to mount a comeback, getting a few baserunners in the top of the last inning, but the Bobcats were able to shut it down, ending the game in five.
- Navarro notched the win for this game, making her record 4-0 so far this season. Navarro picked up two strikeouts in the game and seven assists.
Up next, the Bobcats will head to Brunswick, Ga. to resume Sun Conference play against College of Coastal Georgia. They will kick off the three game series with a doubleheader against the Mariners on Friday, March 14th at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
