BRUNSWICK, Ga. (March 15, 2025) - The #19 St. Thomas University (STU) Softball team traveled to
College of Coastal Georgia on Friday afternoon to face off in another three-game Sun Conference series. After a win on Saturday afternoon, the Bobcats officially swept the Mariners, winning all three games, and remaining undefeated thus far in conference play with a record of 6-0.
Game One: St. Thomas 2, Coastal Georgia 0:
- The Bobcats earned their first victory of the series on Friday afternoon with a shutout win over the Mariners.
- The game remained scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when Victoria Navarro hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Bianca Palacios to put the Bobcats on the board.
- Kaitlynn Martinez secured the win for the Bobcats with a homer in the top of the sixth to put the Bobcats up 2-0.
- Anna Toon earned the victory for game one, with seven innings pitched, allowing only one hit and recording eight strikeouts.
Game Two: St. Thomas 1, Coastal Georgia 0:
- The Bobcats took home another win against the Mariners in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday afternoon.
- The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning yet again, when Kaitlynn Martinez singled to right field, advancing Mya Achenbach to second and scoring Natalie Kopicova scored to put the Bobcats up 1-0.
- Bre'Asia Thomas had a successful game at the plate, going 3-3.Â
- Victoria Navarro earned the victory for game two, with seven innings pitched, five strikeouts, and no runs allowed. This win brings her record to 5-0 this season.
Game Three: St. Thomas 11, Coastal Georgia 8:
- Game three looked a little different than the first two match ups, with both teams putting up a solid fight in the game. Achenbach kicked it off, putting the Bobcats up 1-0 with a solo home run to left center in the top of the first inning.Â
- The Mariners responded with an equalizer, but that only sparked a fire in the Bobcats in the top of inning two. Achenbach brought home Navarro with a single through the left side. Martinez then brought home Achenbach and Emma Encarnacion with a single up the middle, earning two RBI and bringing the score 4-0.
- Gabriella Gilbert then notched a double to center field, bringing home Martinez, which was followed up by a single from Bianca Palacios that brought home Gilbert. The score was 6-1 as the third out was recorded.
- Achenbach then continued her stellar performance, homering once again down the left field line, notching three RBI as she brought home Encarnacion and Navarro to bring the score to 9-1.
- Coastal Georgia attempted a comeback that began in the bottom of the third, scoring a few runs across the next few innings and allowing no runs from STU until top of the sixth.Their most notable inning came in the bottom of the sixth with a grand-slam home run to narrow the score to 10-8.
- Isabella Andujar added one last run for the Bobcats with a homer to left center.
- Anna Toon earned the victory for this game, with five innings pitched notching three strikeouts. These two wins bring her record to 13-1 so far this season.
Up next, the Bobcats will return home to face off against Saint Ambrose University on Wednesday, March 19th at 4 and 6 p.m. at the Colonel.
