10 in a Row! #18 Bobcats Sweep St. Ambrose in Doubleheader

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 19, 2025) - The #18 St. Thomas University (STU) Softball team picked up their 10th-straight win on Wednesday evening with two wins over St. Ambrose University. The Bobcats extended their record to 23-3 after the sweep, with Victoria Navarro and Anna Toon each notching another victory in the circle.

Game One: St. Thomas 5, St. Ambrose 0
  •  Kaitlynn Martinez kicked the Bobcats off in game one with a homer to left center, her fifth of the season, to put STU up 1-0.
  • St. Thomas picked up two more runs in the bottom of the second, with Victoria Navarro bringing home Natalie Kopicova on a single to right center. Navarro then scored on a passed ball to put STU up 3-0.
  • The Bobcats extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth, when Anna Toon doubled to left field, bringing home Maggie Kirk. Kopicova then doubled to right center, scoring Toon to make the score 5-0.
  • Toon earned the victory for the game, with seven strikeouts in seven innings pitched. This brings Toon's record to 14-1 and marks her eighth shutout of the season.

Game Two: St. Thomas 5, St. Ambrose 2
  • After two scoreless innings, St. Ambrose was the first on the board in game two in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly to score their first run.  
  • The Bobcats responded in the bottom of the third with a triple from Kopicova, bringing home Mya Achenbach.
  • SAU responded with another run in the fifth, but the Bobcats were able to stop them there and extend their own lead in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Martinez tripled, speeding to third, and advancing on an error by the St. Ambrose third baseman. Martinez also brought home Kopicova, putting the Bobcats in the lead, 3-0.
  • Gabriella Gilbert then homered over the center field fence, bringing Maggie Kirk home in the process, solidifying the 5-2 victory.
  • Navarro earned the victory for this game, keeping her undefeated streak alive with a record of 6-0. Navarro recorded a season-high six strikeouts in this game across seven innings pitched.

Up next, the Bobcats will resume Sun Conference play with a series against Keiser University that will kick off Friday, March 21st at 3 p.m. in West Palm Beach, Fla.
