MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 8, 2025) - The #19 St. Thomas University (STU) Softball team faced off against
Webber International University in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon to finish off their first Sun Conference series of the season. The Bobcats defeated the Warriors in both match ups, sweeping them 3-0.
Game One: St. Thomas 13, Webber 1 - 5 Innings:
- Natlie Kopicova kicked it off the Bobcats in the bottom of the second with a triple, bring home Isabella Andujar and Gabriella Gilbert to put the Bobcats up 2-0
- STU continued to bring the heat in the second inning, with Kopicova, Victoria Navarro, Alahnis Berrios, Mya Achenbach, and Kaitlynn Martinez each picking up a run to bring the Bobcats to 8-0.
- Martinez, Navarro, and Andujar all recorded singles in the inning, and Gilbert picked up a double for the Bobcats.
- The fun didn't stop there, the Bobcats picked up five more runs in the bottom of the third. Maggie Kirk, Berrios, Navarro, Jamiellet Rodriguez, and Emma Edwards all picked up runs, putting the Bobcats up 13-0.
- Navarro and Andujar notched singles in the third while Martinez and Anna Toon each picked up doubles.
- The Bobcats ultimately defeated the Warriors 13-1. Victoria Navarro picked up the win, bringing her record to 3-0.
Game Two: St. Thomas 7, Webber 4:
- Kopicova once again started the Bobcats off with some smart baserunning, scoring on an error by the catcher to put the Bobcats on the board in the bottom of the second.
- Achenbach homered to left field in the bottom of the third, recording her second home run of the series.
- The Bobcats picked up two more runs in the third, with a sacrifice fly from Toon to bring home Martinez, and some smart baserunning brought home Emma Edwards and Navarro.
- The Bobcats kept extending their lead in the fifth with a single from Martinez bringing home Bre'Asia Thomas and Ana Mendieta to put the Bobcats up 7-0.
- The Warriors attempted to mount a comeback in the top of the sixth, scoring four runs off four hits, including a home run. But it was not enough to take the lead, and the Bobcats ultimately defeated the Warriors 7-4.
- Toon picked up the victory and the save for the Bobcats, bringing her record to 10-1.
This win brings the Bobcats to an overall record of 16-3 and a conference record of 3-0. Up next, the Bobcats will face off against Indiana Tech at home on Monday, March 10th at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
