MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (April 9, 2025) - After a weather postponement, the #16 St. Thomas University (STU) Softball team faced off against
University of Fort Lauderdale in a double header on Wednesday evening. The Bobcats defeated the Eagles in both meetings, earning their 14th straight win, the longest win streak in program history after matching the record two seasons in a row.
Game One: St. Thomas 4, Fort Lauderdale 2:
- The Eagles hit the ground running from the beginning of the game, scoring two runs in the top of the first.Â
- The Bobcats responded in the bottom of the third, first with a double to the center field fence from Isabella Andujar that advanced Gabriella Gilbert and scored Kaitlynn Martinez.
- The scoring drive continued for the Bobcats in the third when Bianca Palacios hit a grounder to short stop, advancing Gilbert on the throw to tie the game up 2-2.
- Victoria Navarro then singled to left field, bringing home Andujar to put the Bobcats in the lead, 2-2.
- Palacios later extended the Bobcats' lead with a homer over the left field fence making the score 4-2.
- Navarro earned the victory for game one, bringing her record to 13-0. Navarro notched seven strikeouts in the meeting while leading the charge with two hits for the Bobcats.
Game Two: St. Thomas 3, Fort Lauderdale 2:
- The Eagles were once again on the board first in game two, scoring on run in the top of the second inning.
- After a few quick innings, the Bobcats responded, first with a triple from Gilbert that scored Martinez to tie up the game.
- St. Thomas took the lead in the inning with a single to center field from Bre'Asia Thomas, scoring Gilbert to make the score 2-1.
- Navarro then singled to center, bringing Thomas home to extend their lead to 3-1.
- Fort Lauderdale attempted to mount a comeback in the top of the fifth, notching one more run. They were unable to take the lead and the Bobcats ultimately defeated them, 3-2.
- Martinez led the charge with two hits and a run in the game.
- Johana Magaldi earned the victory in the circle for this meeting, bringing her record to 4-0, notching an impressive nine strikeouts in the game.
- This win brings the Bobcats to an overall record of 38-4.
Up next, the Bobcats will host
Florida National University on Saturday, April 12th at 12 and 2 p.m. The Bobcats will honor their seniors before the first meeting against the Conquistadors.
