Put Out the Fire! #17 Bobcats Defeat Fire on Day Two of Conference Tournament

CLEARWATER, Fla. (May 2, 2025) - The #17 St. Thomas University (STU) Softball team had a stellar performance on Friday afternoon against the two-seeded Southeastern University. The Bobcats run-ruled the Fire in just 5 innings, defeating them 8-0.

Game Highlights: St. Thomas 8, Southeastern 0:
  • Kaitlynn Martinez kicked it off for the Bobcats with a home run to right field, her 10th of the season. Martinez brought home Mya Achenbach in the process, putting the Bobcats up 2-0 in the bottom of the first.
  • Isabella Andujar then doubled to left field, advancing Bianca Palacios to third and scoring Anna Toon to put the Bobcats up 3-0 at the end of the inning.
  • St. Thomas continued to bring the heat, with Toon notching her second hit of the game, a double to right field. Martinez advanced to third off the hit while Achenbach made it home, adding another run to the tally, 4-0.
  • Achenbach notched an RBI in the bottom of the third with a single to center field that brought home Victoria Navarro, extending the lead to 5-0.
  • The fourth inning saw three more runs for the Bobcats, putting them in the position to end the game in just five innings. Navarro first reached first on an error which scored Emma Edwards to put the Bobcats up 6-0.
  • Bre'Asia Thomas then came to the batter's box ready to shut it down. Thomas doubled to right field, scoring Navarro and Gilbert to put the Bobcats up 8-0. St. Thomas held the Fire off in the top of the fifth to earn the shutout victory.
  • Toon went 3-3 in the box during the match up, picking up two doubles and a single. Martinez, Navarro and Achenbach also had stellar performances, each notching two hits during the game.
  • Navarro earned the credit for this shutout against the Fire, notching three strikeouts across five innings pitched.

Up next, the Bobcats will head to the final day of postseason play, facing off against the winner of tonight's game between Southeastern and Keiser or Southeastern and Webber International.
