CLEARWATER, Fla. (May 3, 2025) - The #17 St. Thomas University (STU) Softball team have officially become back-to-back Sun Conference Champions after defeating Southeastern University on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats pulled out the victory in the 9th inning of the game, 4-2, going undefeated in the Tournament.
Game Highlights: St. Thomas 4, Southeastern 2:
- The Bobcats were the first on the board against the Fire, but not right off the bat. It wasn't until the fourth inning when Bianca Palacios homered to left field, bringing in Gabriella Gilbert in the process. This put the Bobcats up 2-0.
- Southeastern responded in the bottom of the fourth, scoring on a fielder's choice to narrow the gap, 2-1.
- In the seventh innings, the Fire found the equalizer, officially sending the game into extra innings with a score of 2-2.
- In the ninth inning the Bobcats picked up two runs off two singles. Mya Achenbach singled up the middle to bring home Sydnee Fordham followed by Anna Toon who singled through the right side to bring home Natalie Kopicova.
- Anna Toon earns the victory for the meeting, picking up seven strikeouts and allowing only three hits. This win brings her record to 21-2.
St. Thomas receives an automatic berth to the National Tournament and await the 2025 Selection Show to see where they are headed next.
