Defending The Gardens; Women's Volleyball Sweeps Florida Memorial

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Trailing for just one point on Wednesday evening, the 13th ranked St. Thomas Women's Volleyball Team swept Florida Memorial University (25-11, 25-15, 25-17) in the first "Battle of Miami Gardens" matchup of the 2025-26 academic year.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • STU scored the opening two points of the contest and never trailed during the first set, quickly creating a double-digit advantage at 17-4. 

  • After trading points to start the second set, the Bobcats scored four-straight while holding the host without a run greater than two for the entire stanza. 

  • Trailing for the first time in the contest after FMU scored the opening point of the third set, St. Thomas countered with a 7-0 run and kept the lead above five for the rest of the match. 

NOTEWORTHY: 

  • Raya Mlyakova boasted 10 kills on a .500 hitting percentage on top of two assisted blocks and two digs. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • The Bobcats ended the match with 42 kills on a 319 hitting percentage, FMU tallied 273 on a .022 clip. 

  • STU served five aces while the host logged five. 

  • St. Thomas recorded 12 assisted blocks versus four assisted for Florida Memorial. 

  • The Bobcats held a 37-36 advantage in digs.
