Women's Volleyball Opens Conference Play With 3-0 Sweep Of Webber International

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Kicking off Sun Conference play on Saturday evening, the four-time defending Regular Season Champion and 13th ranked St. Thomas Women's Volleyball team swept Webber International (25-23, 25-22, 25-17) on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • STU reclaimed the advantage from Webber late in the first set after a 5-0 run propelled the host to a 20-18 lead, ending the frame on a 3-0 run after trailing 23-22 to win the opening set. 

  • Finding themselves behind in the second stanza 18-16, the Bobcats scored three-points to push ahead 19-18 and led for the rest of the set. 

  • After splitting the initial 26 points of the third stanza, the Bobcats scored three-straight in response to a Warriors' tally to hold a 16-14 advantage and kept the lead for the duration of the match. 

NOTEWORTHY: 

  • Alexandra Bruno boasted 12 kills on a .588 hitting percentage, adding two assisted blocks. 

  • Payton Bertke dished out 35 assists on top of 10 digs for a double double. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • The Bobcats ended the match with 47 kills on a .266 hitting percentage, Webber International tallied 29 on a .109 clip. 

  • STU served four aces while the host logged seven. 

  • St. Thomas recorded three solo blocks with eight assisted versus one solo and 12 assisted for Webber. 

  • The Bobcats held a 56-39 advantage in digs.
