Softball Fends Off Bellevue's Rally For 7-6 Win

Melbourne, Fla. - Playing their final game at the Space Coast Spring Games this season on Thursday, the 12th ranked St. Thomas University Softball Team scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead before fending off a comeback effort by Bellevue in a 7-6 triumph.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Leading off the contest with a base hit, Mya Achenbach quickly got the Bobcats on the scoreboard off a Christina Ortiz single.

  • Bellevue evened the score in the bottom of the first with a sacrifice fly.

  • Gianella Gomez used a two-out base hit in the top of the third to score Jade Fayad and give STU a one-run lead.

  • Bellevue tied the score again in the bottom of the third with a bases loaded walk.

  • Ortiz sent Achenbach home for the second time in the top of the fourth to push the Bobcats back on top 3-2.

  • The opposition capitalized on a Bobcats' error in the fourth inning to score two runs and flip the one-run advantage.

  • Ortiz scored Achenbach for the third time in the top of the sixth to even the score at 4-all.

  • A triple from Ave Regoli in the top of the seventh scored Kiara Selby and Emma Edwards before Giada Acanfora plated Regoli on a groundout to create a 7-4 score.

  • Bellevue scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh before STU recorded the final out to end the game.


NOTEWORTHY:

  • Ortiz went 4-4 with three RBI while throwing the final inning for the save.

  • Achenbach went 2-4 with three runs scored.

  • Regoli went 2-3 with two RBi and one run scored.

  • Johana Magaldi tossed the opening six innings with three earned runs allowed off six hits with three strikeouts.


ON THE HORIZON

The Bobcats host Trinity Baptist on Saturday, Mar. 14 with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
