Men's And Women's Swimming And Diving In The Hunt At NAIA National Championships

Elkhart, Ind. — St. Thomas University opened the 2026 NAIA Swimming & Diving National Championships with strong relay performances and a series of All-American swims through the first two days of competition.

The Bobcat women earned the program's first podium finish of the meet in the 200 medley relay, placing fourth with a time of 1:43.98. The men followed with a fifth-place finish in 1:28.76.

St. Thomas continued to show depth in the distance relays, with the women's 800 freestyle relay placing fifth in 7:38.41 and the men finishing sixth in 6:41.79.

Day two opened with an All-American performance from Bea Moron Alonso in the women's 500 freestyle, touching in 5:09.67. Sophie Urias (10th), Maggie Auran (14th), and Josefina Berraud Galea (16th) also scored points in the event.

Freshman Alan Gonzalez Torres delivered one of the top swims of the meet for the Bobcats, placing third in the men's 500 freestyle with a time of 4:28.18 to earn All-American honors. Freshmen Jack Finnie (12th) and Flynn Smith (13th) added valuable team points.

In the women's 200 individual medley, Alessia Claassen placed fourth in 2:03.47, while Emma Phillips finished sixth in 2:04.23 to give St. Thomas two more podium finishes.

Senior Adam Conrad added another podium performance in the men's 200 individual medley, finishing third in 1:47.92. Freshmen Eric Risland (9th) and Mert Basaran (10th) also contributed points.

Sprint points came from Katie Gorno, who placed ninth in the women's 50 freestyle, followed by Martine Abrahamsen in 14th.

On the boards, Mireya Bonilla Flores delivered a standout performance in the women's 3-meter diving event, finishing second with a score of 255.15 while breaking her own school record.

The Bobcats closed the night with a fourth-place finish in the women's 200 freestyle relay.

Through two days of competition, the St. Thomas men sit sixth in the team standings with 111 points, while the women hold fourth with 167 points. With two days remaining at the national championships, the Bobcats remain firmly in contention for the second half of the meet.
