MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. - St. Thomas University Head Swimming and Diving Coach Caesar Asadi has announced the promotion of Luca Alessandrini to Assistant Swim Coach. Alessandrini's elevation comes after a strong start to his coaching career as a Graduate Assistant with the Bobcats during the 2025-26 academic year.

Working with STU's distance group last season, Alessandrini led the Bobcats to a podium sweep in the Men's 500-Yard freestyle at the Sun Conference Championships before guiding Alan Gonzalez Torrres to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Title in the 1650-Yard Freestyle.

"From the moment I first interviewed Luca in Spring 2025, I knew he would be a perfect fit for the staff and our culture," Asadi said. "He produced incredible results as a graduate assistant with his distance swimmers that led to a Sun Conference podium sweep in the men's 500-yard freestyle and an individual national title. He also coordinated our academic program, continuing our standard of academic excellence in the classroom. I am excited to have him join our staff as the next assistant coach."

No stranger to South Florida, Alessandrini attended Nova Southeastern where he was a four-time All-Sunshine State Conference honoree with six individual Conference Championships. He earned 13 First Team All-American awards over his four trips to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Championships with four CSCAA Scholar All-American Selections.

The Bobcats are coming off top-five showings on both sides at the 2026 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championship. Since 2023, both programs have finished in the top-five every season with the men winning the National Championship in 2024 while the Women posted back-to-back National Runner-Up campaigns in 2024 and 2025.
