Softball Opens Series At Georgia Gwinnett With 4-3 Win

Lawrenceville, Ga.. - Traveling out of the Sunshine State for a three-game nationally-ranked series on Saturday, the 12th-ranked St. Thomas University Softball Team used a two-run fourth inning to flip a one-run game in a 4-3 victory at No. 21 Georgia Gwinnett

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • STU capitalized on an error by the host in the top of the first to quickly get on the scoreboard.
  • Georgia Gwinnett evened the score in the bottom of the first off a double.
  • Reaching base on a one-out single, Alahnis Berrios put the Bobcats ahead 2-1 off a Mya Achenbach double.
  • GGC evened the score in the bottom of the second, taking the lead in the bottom of the third at 3-2.
  • Opening the top of the fourth with back-to-back walks, Christina Ortiz sent Bailey LeGere and Ana Mendieta home off a double to make it 4-2.
NOTEWORTHY:
  • Ortiz went 2-4 with two RBI and a double at the plate while getting the win in the circle after holding the host off the scoreboard for 2.2 innings.
  • Achenbach went 2-3 with a double, RBI, run scored and walk.
  • Allison Morales went 2-4 with a double.
