HIALEAH, Fla. – The St. Thomas University Women's Soccer team continued its strong start to the 2026 season with a commanding 3-0 victory over the Florida National University Conquistadors. The Bobcats controlled the match from start to finish, scoring three unanswered goals while limiting FNU to just three shots.
St. Thomas immediately established control of the match, generating consistent pressure in the attacking third. The Bobcats outshot the Conquistadors 14-1 during the opening 45 minutes and eventually found the breakthrough late in the first half.
In the 40th minute, STU earned a penalty kick, and Rebecca Louis stepped to the spot. Louis converted the opportunity at the 39:17 mark to give the Bobcats a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
The Bobcats continued to dictate the pace after the break. STU added 11 more shots in the second half while holding Florida National to only two.
St. Thomas doubled its advantage in the 71st minute. Hanah Gonzalez helped create the opportunity and found Leenah Bigby, who finished the attack at the 70:03 mark to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead. The assist continued a productive start to the season for Gonzalez, who has played a role in the Bobcats' attack through the opening matches.
With the victory nearly secured, STU added one final goal in the closing seconds. Maria Mendes found the back of the net with just four seconds remaining in regulation, putting the finishing touches on the 3-0 victory.
The Bobcats dominated the statistical battle, finishing with a 25-3 advantage in total shots and placing 14 attempts on goal compared to just one for Florida National. The Conquistadors' goalkeeper was forced to make 11 saves, while the STU defense kept opportunities to a minimum throughout the match.
St. Thomas also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. The Bobcats' defensive effort secured the team's second shutout of the season, allowing just one shot on goal over the full 90 minutes.
With the victory, St. Thomas improves to 3-0 on the season and continues its unbeaten start to the 2026 campaign.
