Miami Gardens, Fla. - In their home opener, Men's Soccer took down Florida National behind some early offense and good defensive work. Juan Braz and Julien Laborde led the way, each with a goal and an assist.
It took just four minutes into the game for the Bobcats to get on the scoresheet, as Lucas Cafera found the net, with the assist coming from Braz. Midway through the first half, Braz found the scoresheet again in the 24th minute, on a header goal from a Laborde corner kick, doubling the Bobcats' lead. The corner kick offense continued for the Bobcats, as Thiago Patto's corner was able to connect with Julian Ramirez in the 41st minute for Ramirez's first goal of the season. The Bobcats lead 3-0 going into halftime.
Around a minute into the second half, Laborde was able to give the Bobcats a 4-0 advantage as he earned his third point of the match with a goal. The offenses remained quiet on both sides for most of the second half, but Florida National was able to get on the board behind a David Luque goal in the 87th minute.
The Bobcats' defense did a great job limiting shot opportunities, as they allowed only four total shots from the Conquistadors. Matias Fuentes made two saves for St. Thomas while in the net for all 90 minutes.
The Bobcats will be on the road next week, as they head to Auburndale, Florida, for a match with Florida Polytechnic University. The game is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
