Auburndale, Fla. - St. Thomas used a strong second half, scoring five goals in an 18-minute span, in their 6-1 win over Florida Poly. Thiago Patto had five points on the night, on two goals and an assist.
Florida Poly started off the scoring with a penalty kick goal in the 23rd minute. Less than a minute and a half later, the Bobcats responded on a Luca Heusser goal to even the score, 1-1. The rest of the first half remained scoreless.
The score sheet became busy in the second half quickly, with Patto giving the Bobcats a 2-1 advantage on a penalty shot in the 47th minute. Julien Laborde, who had the assist on the Heusser goal earlier in the game, was able to score a goal in the 49th minute, with the assist coming from Patto. Patto scored his second goal of the game in the 55th minute to give the Bobcats a 4-1 advantage. 10 minutes later, Manuel Dominguez scored his first goal of the season, with the assist from Okan Erkocu. A little over a minute later, Bautista Suarez Basalo also scored his first goal of the season, with the assist coming from Maksym Osadchyi. All of these second-half goals were scored in an 18-minute span between the 48th minute and the 66th minute.
The Bobcats' defense did a great job limiting shots, as they only allowed four shots against for the second straight game. Matias Fuentes was in goal for St. Thomas, and he recorded one save in limited opportunities.
The Bobcats will return to action in a week and a half, as they open Sun Conference play against Keiser University. The game is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, at 7:00 pm.
