AVE MARIA, Fla. — The St. Thomas University Bobcats women's soccer team earned a 3-0 victory over the Ave Maria University Gyrenes, securing a shutout victory behind goals from Julia Ezcurra, Rebecca Louis and Mariana Sanchez.
St. Thomas opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Ezcurra found the back of the net at 20:01, giving the Bobcats an early 1-0 advantage.
The Bobcats carried their lead into halftime before doubling their advantage early in the second half. At 49:11, Louis converted a penalty kick to extend St. Thomas' lead to 2-0.
Just over seven minutes later, Sanchez added another goal for the Bobcats at 56:08, putting St. Thomas ahead 3-0 and completing the scoring for the afternoon.
St. Thomas controlled the attacking opportunities throughout the contest, finishing with 10 shots, including seven on target. The Bobcats also earned five corner kicks while limiting Ave Maria to seven shots and no corner kicks.
Defensively, St. Thomas held the Gyrenes scoreless while recording four saves. Ave Maria also finished with four saves.
The Bobcats' defensive effort remained strong throughout the second half as St. Thomas protected its three-goal advantage to secure the shutout victory.
With the 3-0 result, St. Thomas continues its season with another strong performance on both sides of the ball, combining three goals with a clean sheet.
The Bobcats will now look forward to facing Sun Conference foe Keiser University, on Saturday, September 26th.
Kickoff is set for 11AM.
