WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The St. Thomas University Bobcats women's soccer team fell to the Keiser University Seahawks, 3-1, on the road in West Palm Beach.
After a scoreless first half, Keiser broke through in the 47th minute when Blanca Bachi found the back of the net at 46:36 to give the Seahawks a 1-0 lead. Just 32 seconds later, Luisa Fontes doubled the advantage, scoring off an assist from Ruby Vernon to put Keiser ahead 2-0.
The Bobcats responded in the 65th minute as Julia Ezcurra scored her third goal of the season at 64:07. Leenah Bigby provided the assist, helping St. Thomas cut the deficit to 2-1 and bring the Bobcats back within striking distance.
Keiser added an insurance goal in the 84th minute when Marta Filipe scored at 83:25, extending the Seahawks' lead to 3-1 and securing the victory.
Keiser held the advantage in shots, outshooting St. Thomas 16-4, including an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. The Seahawks also recorded seven corner kicks compared to none for the Bobcats. St. Thomas recorded five saves, while Keiser made two saves.
Despite the result, the Bobcats found the back of the net through Ezcurra's third goal of the season, with Bigby earning the assist.
The Bobcats return home on Wednesday, September 30, when they host Florida Memorial University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
