MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The St. Thomas University women's soccer team fell to Florida Memorial University, 1-0, on Wednesday after the Lions scored early in the second half to claim the victory.
After a scoreless opening half, Florida Memorial broke through in the 53rd minute when Javine McKnight found the back of the net at 52:41. Lumturie Berushi provided the assist on McKnight's ninth goal of the season, giving the Lions a 1-0 advantage.
St. Thomas responded by applying pressure throughout the remainder of the match, but the Bobcats were unable to find the equalizer.
The Bobcats generated 24 shots, including 12 on goal, while Florida Memorial recorded eight shots with seven on target. St. Thomas also held an advantage in corner kicks, 7-2.
The Florida Memorial goalkeeper made 12 saves to preserve the shutout, while the Alfaro recorded six saves.
St. Thomas continued to push forward late in the match, recording 15 shots in the second half, but the Lions' defense held firm to secure the 1-0 result.
St. Thomas will now look to bounce back as they host the Ave Maria University Gyrenes on Saturday, October 3rd.
Kickoff is set for 6PM.
