MIAMI GARDENS, FL – The St. Thomas University Bobcats drop conference series 2-1 to the Warner University Royals. The series was held at home starting on Friday night where the Bobcats fell by a score of 6-3. On Saturday, the Bobcats played a double-header. In the first game of the day the Bobcats scored their second win by a score of 8-7, but they then dropped the decisive game of the series by a score of 8-2. The Bobcats drop to 2-12 overall and (2-4 in The Sun Conference).
In the first game of the series the Bobcats got 6 hits from 6 different players.
Marlon Pascual,
Manuel Rodriguez, and
DePhillip Mason each got an RBI. Pitcher
Jesus Blanco pitched well, but was credited for the loss. Blanco pitched 6.1 innings allowing only 4 hits and 3 runs (2 earned runs).
The second game of the series proved to be the Bobcats second win of the year. The Bobcats jumped out to an early start scoring 5 runs in the first on 5 hits and 3 walks. The Bobcats struck again in the 5th inning scoring another 2 runs to push their lead to 7-3. The lead then evaporated as the Royals came back to tie the game in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs. Then in the 11th inning
Kyle Radziewski doubled in the game winning to win by a score of 8-7. The Bobcats complied 11 hits in the game with
Kyle Radziewski,
Oswaldo Troconis, and
Jesse Fernandez each going 2-5. Fernandez had 2 RBIs and 6 other Bobcats each got 1 RBI.
Nick Loden gets the win pitching the 11th inning and not allowing a hit. Pitcher
Jose Mendoza went 6.1 innings allowing 6 hits and 4 runs.
The decisive game of the series saw the Bobcats drop the game by a score of 8-2. Royals' pitcher, John Durham, dominated the game pitching a complete game and allowed only 4 hits and 2 runs.
DePhillip Mason accounted for half of the hits going 2-3 with an RBI. Both of the Bobcats runs came in the 6th inning where
Lance Larimer also got an RBI and went 1-3. Pitcher
Kelvin Colon was credited with the loss, but pitched a solid 4.2 innings allowing only 3 hits. Colon allowed 3 runs, but none of the runs were earned.
The Bobcats take the field again on Tuesday, February 24, at home. The Bobcats will be taking on Florida Memorial University and the game time is set for 6:00 pm at Frank R Esposito Field.
