DAYTONA, FL – The St. Thomas University men's tennis team came up short on their road trip this weekend. On Saturday the team traveled to Orlando, FL to play against conference opponent Savannah College of Art and Design, who is ranked #7 in the NAIA poll. The Bobcats lost to SCAD by a score of 9-0. From there, the Bobcats traveled to Daytona to play Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. That too ended in a 9-0 defeat for the Bobcats.
Against SCAD the Bobcats dropped the three double slots to go down 3-0. Second doubles played tough losing by a score of 8-5. The singles proved to be competitive but none of the Bobcats could pull through. Almost every position had at least one close set.
On Sunday, versus Embry-Riddle, the Bobcats started out much stronger in the doubles posting close scores at the top. First doubles lost 8-5, and second doubles lost 8-6. The Bobcats played some tough singles matches against the 3rd ranked NAIA team. The freshman tandem at 3 and 4 singles posted very respectable scores. William Fountain lost at #3 singles by a score of 7-6 (4), 6-2 and Andrew Rifkin lost at #4 singles by a score of 3-6, 6-0, 6-3.
The men are back in action on the road Thursday, February 12 versus Northwood University.
