MIAMI GARDENS, FL – The St. Thomas University Bobcats win a thriller in the bottom of the ninth against Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday. The game-winning run was
Oswaldo Troconis who was batted in by
Kyle Radziewski to win by a score of 6-5. The Bobcats dropped the first game of the series on Friday night by a score of 13-5. The series finale on Saturday was rained out. The win on Saturday brings the Bobcats overall record to 11-19 and 4-5 in The Sun Conference.
The Bobcats struggled in game 1 of the series as they were ousted 13-5. The Bobcats tallied for 9 hits and allowed 16 hits.
Ralph Dieguez went 3-4 with a run scored and a RBI.
J.C. Gil went 1-4 with a 2-run homer.
Nestor Rincon also got two hits going 2-3 with a run scored and a double.
Miguel Hernandez pitched solid for the Bobcats going 4.1 innings and allowing only 2 hits. Hernandez did however walk 5 batters and allowed 3 runs. Pitcher
Yamil Echeverria was credited with the loss.
On Saturday, the Bobcats won a thriller in the second game of the series. The Bobcats were down 5-4 going into the 9th inning but scored 2 runs to win the game.
Alvaro Bastos was knocked in by
J.C. Gil to tie the game in the 9th inning at 5-5.
Oswaldo Troconis then entered to pinch run for Gil. Troconis was able to get to 3rd base on a wild pitch. Then
Kyle Radziewski was able to get a base hit to drive home Troconis for the game winner. Pitcher
Jose Mendoza went 6.0 innings and allowed 11 hits and 5 runs.
Manuel Rodriguez was credited with the win pitching 2.0 innings allowing 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, and had 5 strikeouts.
The Bobcats are playing against North Dakota State on Sunday. The game is a neutral site game and is scheduled to be played at the Santaluces Complex in West Palm Beach.
