MIAMI GARDENS, FL – The St. Thomas University Bobcats get big conference sweep over the Edward Waters College Tigers. The Bobcats kicked off the sweep on Friday night when they won by a score of 16-5.
Nestor Rincon set a tone for the series as he hit a grand slam in the first inning of the first game;
Oswaldo Troconis tacked on a homer of his own later in the 3rd inning. The Bobcats had plenty of more offense left on Saturday when they came out in game two and won by a score of 10-6. Rincon had another blast in this game, as did
Ruy Rodriguez. In the series finale, it was pitching that helped dominate for the Bobcats as they allowed only 1 run.
Miguel Hernandez pitched a 5 inning 1-hitter.
Alvaro Bastos got in on the homer parade in the game as the Bobcats were able to win by a score of 6-1. The sweep improves the Bobcats overall record to 14-21 (7-5 in The Sun Conference).
In game one, the Bobcats got the offense going early as the first 3 batters reached base and
Nestor Rincon plated them all with one swing, hitting a grand slam. The Bobcats went on to score 7 runs in the first inning. Offensively, the Bobcats combined for 19 hits.
Nestor Rincon went 3-5 with 6 RBIs, a homer, and a run scored.
Alvaro Bastos went 3-4 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs, 2 stolen bases, and a walk.
Oswaldo Troconis went 3-4 with 4 runs scored, 2 RBIs, a triple, and a homer. Pitcher
Daylan Gil pitched a 7 inning complete game and got the win for the Bobcats. Gil allowed 10 hits, 5 runs, and a walk, while striking out 3.
Game two was much of the same as the Bobcats came out firing again putting up 6 runs in the first two innings. 2 of those runs came off of another Rincon homer in the second inning. The Tigers came back and tied the game up at 6-6, but then the Bobcats pulled away for a 10-6 win.
Ruy Rodriguez's homer helped to secure the victory in the 8th inning. The Bobcats had 14 hits for the game with 4 of them coming from
DePhillip Mason who went 4-5 with 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases.
Ruy Rodriguez went 3-4 with 2 RBIs, 1 run scored, and a homer.
Andres Ibarz got the win for the Bobcats as he pitched 5 solid innings and gave up only 5 hits, but 6 runs and 6 walks, he also had 2 strikeouts.
Kelvin Colon then relieved Ibarz and pitched a stellar 3 innings allowing only 1 hit and 2 walks. Colon allowed no runs and had 3 strikeouts.
Manuel Rodriguez got the save for the Bobcats as he came in and dominated the 9th inning striking out 3 batters.
The series finale was dominated by Bobcat pitching as
Miguel Hernandez pitched a 5 inning 1-hitter. He allowed no runs, 4 walks and had 3 strikeouts. Hernandez was credited with the win for the Bobcats.
Jesus Blanco pitched an inning of relief allowing 1 hit, 1 run, 2 walks, and had 3 strikeouts. William Leon got the save as he pitched 1 scoreless inning allowing no hits, 1 walk, and had 1 strikeout. The Bobcats also combined for 15 hits as 6 different Bobcats had 2 hits.

The Bobcats are on the road Tuesday (March 31) against Northwood University. The game will be at Northwood in Dayton Beach and the game time is set for 3:00 pm.
