MIAMI GARDENS, FL – The St. Thomas University Bobcats rally late to come from behind and oust the Lynn University Fighting Knights by a score of 6-5. The Bobcats were down 4-0 in the 6th inning and came back to tie. The Fighting Knights broke the tie in the top of the 9th to take the lead 5-4. Then in the bottom of the 9th the Bobcats were able to rally and score 2-runs to win the game. The win brings the Bobcats overall record to 20-25 (10-8 in The Sun Conference).
The game started out as a pitching dual threw the first 5 innings when only 1 run was scored and that was by Lynn.
Kelvin Colon got the start for the Bobcats as he went a solid 5.2 innings allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits, he also tallied 3 K's and 4 walks. The scoring picked up in the 6th inning when Colon was chased from the game. In the bottom of the 6th the Bobcats stormed right back with 3 runs and knocked Lynn's starting pitcher out of the game.
The game was tied heading into the 9th inning when Lynn was able to tack on a run. Down 4-5 in the bottom of the 9th,
Ruy Rodriguez was first up and drew a walk. Aristides Sosa came in to pinch-run for Rodriguez and
DePhillip Mason stepped to the plate and came up with a huge game-tying RBI double.
Marlon Pascual the sacrificed Mason over to 3rd base.
Alvaro Bastos and
Nestor Rincon were both then intentionally walked to load the bases.
Oswaldo Troconis then came up with a game-winning infield hit that was just out of the pitcher's reach.
Kyle Radziewski was the only Bobcat with 2 hits going 2-3. Seven different Bobcats each had a hit and of those seven
DePhillip Mason,
Anthony Angulo,
Oswaldo Troconis, and JC Gil each had an RBI.
Jesse Fernandez got the win for the Bobcats as he came in and got the last two outs of the 9th inning relieving Weseley Morejon who recorded the first out of the 9th. The Bobcats also got great relief pitching from
Robert Reina who pitched 2.1 innings allowing 1 run (no earned) on 4 hits.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday (April 15) against Barry University. The game is away at Miami Shores and game time is set for 6:00 pm.
