WEST PALM BEACH, FL – The St. Thomas University Bobcats pick up an impressive 2-game sweep over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish. The Bobcats traveled to play the Sailfish in a double-header that the Bobcats won by the scores of 10-8 and 6-4. The Bobcats have started to play at a higher level as they have picked up their 5th win in a row and improve their record to 16-21 and 7-5 in The Sun Conference.
Game one of the double-header went back and forth as the Bobcats fell behind 1-0 before scoring 3 in the 3rd inning. The Bobcats then fell behind again by a score of 8-5 before scoring 5 runs in the 6th inning to put away the game. The Bobcats managed 10 runs on 12 hits against Sailfish pitching. Three different Bobcats had a multi-hit game.
DePhillip Mason went 2-3 with a homer, 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs, and a walk.
Lance Larimer went 3-4 with 2 RBIs.
Oswaldo Troconis went 2-4 with 2 runs scored and a RBI.
Kyle Radziewski also came in late and went 1-1 with a 2-run single.
Nick Loden got the start for the Bobcats pitching 4 innings and allowing 6 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits.
Andres Ibarz is credited with the win as he recorded one out in the 5th inning.
Jesse Fernandez and
Manuel Rodriguez each pitched a scoreless inning of relief and Rodriguez was credited with the save.
In game two, the Bobcats dominated by great pitching and got 14 hits to hold off the Sailfish. The Bobcats needed the insurance runs that they tacked on in the 7th inning via a
Kyle Radziewski blast, as the Sailfish came back in the bottom of the 7th, but
Miguel Hernandez was able to shut the door on them.
The Bobcats offense was still clicking as four different Bobcats had multiple hits.
Lance Larimer went 3-4 again with a run scored. Larimer went 6-8 on the day against the Sailfish.
Oswaldo Troconis went 2-4 with a run scored and a RBI.
Kyle Radziewski had a big game as he got the 3-run homer in the 7th inning and went 3-4 with the homer, 3 RBI, and a run scored.
Jesse Fernandez went 2-3 as well.
Yamil Echeverria pitched a gem for the Bobcats, picking up the win and going 5 innings and allowing only 1 run on 2 hits.
Miguel Hernandez got the save for the Bobcats as he came in and recorded the final out to secure the win.
The Bobcats are back on the road this weekend as they play a 3-game conference series versus Webber International University. Game one is scheduled to begin Friday (April 3) at 6:00 pm. Game two will be at 12:00 pm Saturday (April 4) with game three to follow. The Bobcats will be looking to continue on their longest win streak of the season.
