FORT MYERS, FL – The St. Thomas University Bobcats stay alive with a win over Webber International University, in an elimination game, by a score of 10-5. This was the second game for the Bobcats in The Sun Conference Tournament; they dropped the first game of the tournament to Warner University by a score of 4-2. The Bobcats must win the rest of their games in the tournament to qualify for the NAIA National Championship, as it is a double-elimination format.
In their first game versus Warner University, the Bobcats struggled to produce runs as they managed only 2 runs on 8 hits. Only two Bobcats tallied multiple hit games,
Nestor Rincon and
Oswaldo Troconis. Both of them went 2-4 and Troconis scored one of the two runs.
Daylan Gil pitched a complete game for the Bobcats going 8 strong innings allowing 4 runs on 10 hits.
After the loss, the Bobcats were then matched up against Webber International in an elimination game. The Bobcats got themselves into an early hole falling behind 4-0 in the 3rd inning. The Bobcats' bats then woke up in the 4th inning as they started to post runs. They went on to score 10 runs on 13 hits. Four different Bobcats had multiple hit games.
DePhillip Mason went 3-5 with 2 runs scored.
Lance Larimer went 2-4 with 2 RBIs, a walk, and a stolen base.
Marlon Pascual went 3-4 with 2 RBIs. JC Gil went 2-4 with 3 RBIs. Also,
Kyle Radziewski blasted a 2-run homer.
Yamil Echeverria started the game for the Bobcats. Echeverria struggled in the 3rd inning as he gave up 4 runs.
Andres Ibarz then relieved Echeverria getting him out of the inning. Ibarz went on to pitch a gem, finishing the game and allowing only 1 run on 5 hits in 6.1 innings of work. Ibarz was then credited with the win for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats will face another elimination game tomorrow at 3:00 pm. Who they play is yet to be determined, as they will be playing the loser of Warner University and Savannah College of Art and Design.
