This match was also part of the United States Tennis Association’s “Kids Day” program designed to promote collegiate level tennis to local community children. Fifty children from the Olinda Elementary School in Miami attended this event sponsored by St. Thomas University providing transportation and hosting this educational field trip. STU Head Coach Bruce Carrington and Head Coach William Heath both spoke to the children about sportsmanship, preparation for collegiate sports and mutual respect for individuals and teams. Also USTA official umpires lectured on the rules, regulations and formalities of collegiate tennis. The children enjoyed over 2 hours of exciting and highly competitive tennis in which St. Thomas won both team matches with a score of 7-2. During this elementary school field trip the students were given a tour of the new St. Thomas University Science & Technology Building viewing and experiencing one of the newest science educational laboratories in Florida.
