CORAL GABLES, Fla. - St. Thomas traveled to the University of Miami Tuesday, where they met the Hurricanes at Alex Rodriguez Field. The Bobcats hung tight through five innnings, but came up short in the end, 9-6.
STU rallied behind early game excitement to bring in 4 runs at the top of the first inning.
Alvaro Bastos scored the first run on a
Nestor Rincon single. Stephen Merino advance to second before scoring on a Victor Madrazo single. Ozzie Sanchez ripped a double to Rincon and Andrew Rodriguez got the final RBI of the inning by grounding to the short stop and scoring Madrazo.
The Bobcats held a 4-1 lead through two and half innnings, but the Hurricanes answered with 5 runs to take a 6-4 advantage into the fourth. There, St. Thomas knotted the game at 6 apiece with runs from Ruy and Robert Rodriguez.
Strong relief from the Hurricane bullpen ended the Bobcats' success at scoring runs. Miami added runs in the fourth, sixth, seventh to put the Bobcats away. STU's bullpen hung together and got good input from four different pitchers.
STU moves to 27-27 and will finish the 2010 regular season against Barry at St. Thomas next week.
