Game 2: STU 3, PBA 2 Final.
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - It took 12 innings and almost four hours of play to do so, but the St. Thomas University Bobcats beat the Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish in game 2 of the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-2. PBA won the opener 6-0 earlier in the day.
PBA took an early lead in the top of the first, with Andres Vazquez singling to left field and scoring Ryan Gerber.
An error by the shortstop helped the Bobcats tie the game in the second, however, as
Oscar Romero crossed the plate to make it 1-1.
The Sailfish went ahead in the third on an RBI double down the left field line, but again the Bobcats answered back in the bottom of the inning. With runners on first and second,
Edwin Rolon singled to right, bringing home
Nicholas Perez.
The two teams played eight and a half scoreless innings before the game reached its final frame. With two outs in the bottom of the 12th, Perez was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a single to right by
Jerry Downs. Rolon then drove home the winning run with a base hit into the gap in center field, his second RBI of the night.
Danny Sanchez took over for
Ricky Claudio in the third, and finished with 6 hits, 1 run, and five strikeouts over eight innings of work before handing off the baseball to
Kyle Young, who earned his fourth win of the season.
The Bobcats' advance to 20-5 with the win. The next home game is Tuesday, March 12, against Florida Memorial.
