BOBCATS WIN SERIES AT NORTHWOOD; 15 K BY OGANDO

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Despite a 15-strikeout by starting pitcher Emilio Ogando, St. Thomas fell to Northwood 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday in West Palm Beach.  The Bobcats responded with a 11-3 win in the second game of the doubleheader to clinch a series win over the Seahawks in the opening of Sun Conference play.
 
In the early game, Ogando was masterful striking out a career-high 15 batters.  In seven complete innings, Ogando struck out 15 of the 24 batters he faced and gave up no runs on four hits while not walking a batter. 
 
In the top of the eighth, the Bobcats scored the first run of the game to put Ogando in position for the win as an RBI ground out by Oscar Aguirre scored Michael Centeno.  Northwood responded with a run in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game.  The game headed into extra innings tied 1-1 until the deadlock was tied in the bottom of the 11th by Northwood.
 
In the second game of the doubleheader, St. Thomas bounced back with a 11-3 win over Northwood to clinch the series.  The Bobcats put up five runs in the second inning to take an early lead on a steal of home by Jerry Downs followed by three consecutive RBI-doubles by Adam Duarte, Edwin Medina and Eric Santamaria.  Kyle Young was the winning pitcher allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks. 
 
In the first game of the series played Friday, the Bobcats routed the Seahawks 12-1 in a game called after seven innings due to the ten-run rule.  Eddie Cody (2-0) earned the win after allowing just one run on seven hits with six strikeouts and zero walks.  Offensively, Elim Perritte (3-4. 2B) and Brandon Canizares (2-3, 2B) each drove in three runs to lead the charge.

The Bobcats return to action with a game vs. Nova Southeastern on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.
