MAGICAL 2014 RUN ENDS FOR BOBCATS

Box Score IRVINE, Calif. – The St. Thomas University softball team was eliminated from the NAIA National Championships Opening Round losing 5-0 to Concordia (Ore.) on Tuesday at Eagles Field in Irvine, Calif.  STU, which qualified for the NAIA Opening Round by winning The Sun Conference, finishes the year with a 27-27 overall record, while Concordia improved to 34-17.
 
Concordia scored two runs in the second and third innings, then added a fifth run in the fourth inning en route to the win in what was a must-win game for both teams.  McKenzie Marshall (19-6) pitched five shutout innings allowing just three hits, while striking out five and walking none to get the win.
 
Senior Brenda Emerson started the game for the Bobcats, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits over four innings.  Sophomore Carson Catasus was effective in relief pitching two shutout innings and allowing just two hits.
 
The Bobcats however were unable to get their bats going managing just five hits, all singles.  Sasha Horton, Chrstina Horton, Cristina Sacramento, Carson Catasus, and Amanda Penton had base hits for the Bobcats.  Penton also stole a base.
 
It marked the final game in a St. Thomas University uniform for six seniors: Daniela Barboza, Danielle Borrelli, Brenda Emerson, Sasha Horton, Denie Prieto and Alexsa Valdes.
