2/13/2016 7:28:00 PM

Box Score 1 MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas (5-4), ranked number one by Perfect Game and no. 2 in the NAIA Coaches Poll, split a doubleheader with 13th ranked Auburn-Montgomery (5-3) winning game one 4-2, then losing game two 7-4 Saturday at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.

Alex Hernandez earned the win in game one, allowing no earned runs on five hits over six innings.  Hernandez struck out seven and walked none in his winning performance.  Tyeler Checkley then pitched two perfect innings to set up Chris Rodriguez who earned the save.

In the first game, the Bobcats trailed 1-0 until a RBI-double by Oscar Rodriguez and a RBY-single by Bryan Bermudez gave STU the lead after five innings.  Oscar Aguirre then hit a monstrous home run in the eighth.

In the second game, the Warhawks jumped out to a 7-0 lead.  STU came back to cut the lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the sixth, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.

St. Thomas returns to action on Tuesday vs. Nova Southeastern at 6 p.m. at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.
