Box Score MIAMI – NCAA Division I FIU (1-3) defeated St. Thomas (7-7) 6-1 on Tuesday night at the FIU Baseball Stadium.

Andrew Denis (0-2) started for the Bobcats and did an excellent job keeping the game close, stranding Panther runners on several occasions.  Denis went six full innings, allowing just one run on nine hits while striking out four and walking two. 

FIU got on the board first on a solo home run by Kenny Meimerstorf in the bottom of the third.  After being held scoreless by Denis in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, the Panthers added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh.

In the top of the seventh, Cesar Ramirez hit a single to get on base.  With two outs, Oscar Rodriguez singled to center field to move Ramirez to third.  The Bobcats' threat ended however as Ramirez was thrown out at home on a double-steal attempt.

Rodriguez hit a RBI single to score German Morales with two runs in the ninth for STU's lone run.

The Bobcats return to action on Wednesday when they visit the University of Miami, the fifth ranked team in NCAA Division I, at Mark Light Field in Coral Gables, Fla.
