BABSON PARK, Fla. - Ben Ancheff struck out nine batters and Jose Gomez went 5-for-5 with three RBI as no. 2 St. Thomas (8-7, 1-0 TSC) defeated host Webber International (8-5, 2-2 TSC) 9-4 in the Bobcats' first Sun Conference game of the season.

Ancheff (3-2), STU's ace starting pitcher, earned the win after fanning nine Warrior hitters over seven complete innings, allowing just two runs on eight hits.

The Bobcats had a big night offensively led by Gomez who went 5-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored. Oscar Aguirre was 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and Steven Fischer 2-for-5 with 2 RBI.

Webber went ahead 2-1 and held the lead until the top of the sixth when Steven Fischer hit a RBI-double to score Kendrick Gutierrez and knot the game at two runs a piece.

In the top of the seventh, STU Gutierrez reached base on an error and recorded an RBI on the play scoring Adam Duarte for the go-ahead run.  The big inning for the Bobcats continued as Gomez and Aguirre followed with RBI-singles to put STU ahead 5-2.

St. Thomas added four insurance runs in the top of the ninth to put the game out of reach.
