Box Score 2 VERO BEACH, Fla. - No. 2 St. Thomas won two games in dominant fashion on Monday in an invitational at historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Fla. The Bobcats defeated Bethel College (0-4) 12-5 and followed that with a 27-3 thrashing of Grace College (4-4).
In the first game of the day against Bethel, STU scored 11 unanswered runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to rally from a 4-1 deficit.
A season-high four home runs were hit by the Bobcats beginning with a lead-off-first pitch home run by
Adam Duarte. In the top of the sixth,
Jose Gomez hit a solo home run which was followed by a three-run, go-ahead homer by
Cesar Ramirez to make the score 5-4.
Michael Centeno hit the fourth home run of game, a solo shot that put the Bobcats ahead 6-4.
Alejandro Kan (1-0) earned the win after coming in to receive starter
Alex Sarmiento. Kan allowed just two hits and one earned run over 4.1 innings with six strikeouts.
In the second game vs. Grace, St. Thomas dominated from the start, leading 8-0 after two innings and 11-0 after three. The Bobcats would continue their offensive onslaught scoring a total of 27 runs.
Adam Toombs (1-1) was credited with the win.
St. Thomas returns to action with a three-game series vs. Warner beginning 6 p.m. Friday at Paul Demie Mainieiri Stadium.
