LAKE WALES, Fla. – The St. Thomas men's tennis team split a pair of Sun Conference matches over the weekend. On Friday, the Bobcats dominated host Webber International 9-0 in Babson Park, Fla. The following day, the Bobcats fell to host Warner 7-2 in Lake Wales, Fla.
On Friday evening, the Bobcats were dominant running out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. The numbe one doubles team of freshmen
Kevin Cubela and
Mauricio Fernandez won 8-4.
Juan Carlos Villamizar-Abia and
Josh Rosner won number two doubles 8-5, while
Jacobo Nieto and
Jermaine Le Grand took care of business with a 8-1 victory.
STU continued its dominance winning all six singles matches with wins by Cubela (no. 1 singles), Villamizar-Abia (no. 2 singles), Le Grand (no. 3 singles), Rosner (no. 4 singles), Nieto (no. 5 singles) and Fernandez (no. 6 singles).
On Saturday afternoon, the Bobcats headed to Lake Wales for another conference match up, this time vs. Warner University. STU fell behind 0-3 after the double competition. The Bobcats managed two wins in singles play: Le Grand (7-6, 3-6, 10-6 in no. 3 singles) and Rosner (7-5, 6-2 in no. 4 singles).
With the split, the St. Thomas men's tennis is now 2-1 in Sun Conference competition.
