BOBCATS SWEEP FIRE IN DOUBLEHEADER

LAKELAND, Fla. - St. Thomas (18-11, 6-3 Sun Conference) swept a doubleheader over host Southeastern (17-14, 3-6 TSC) Saturday in Lakeland. The Bobcats won the first game 11-8, then defeated the Fire 5-4 in game two.

In game one, senior catcher Steven Fischer went 4-5 with two doubles, a home run and two RBI. First baseman Kendrick Gutierrez was 3-5 with two RBI and a stolen base.

Starting pitcher Alex Hernandez earned the game one victory, while Chris Rodriguez recorded the save to close out the win.

In game two, Erne Valdes came in to relieve starter Andrew Denis and pitched four shutout innings allowing just three hits and striking out seven for the win.

The Bobcats came back from a one-run deficit with a run in the seventh to tie the score 4-4.

In the ninth, Mike Sanchez reached base on a hit by pitch, was moved over on a sacrifice bunt by Fischer, then scored on a ground out RBI by Oscar Aguirre for the game winner.

The Bobcats return to action on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Palm Beach Atlantic at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.
