BOBCAT PITCHING TAKES CARE OF BUSINESS VS. LIONS

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas (26-14, 10-5 TSC) defeated Florida Memorial (6-31, 3-17 TSC) 6-1 in a Sun Conference match up Monday night at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.  The game was a make-up from a conference game originally scheduled on March 25 that had been postponed due to rain.  With the win, the Bobcats moved into third place in The Sun Conference standings.
 
Four Bobcat pitchers combined to allow just four hits and no earned runs while striking out eight.  Alex Hernandez (3-2) earned the win, pitching three shutout innings allowing just one hit, while striking out six of the ten batters he faced and walking none.
 
Andrew Denis also allowed just one hit over three shutout innings, followed by Adam Toombs who threw a perfect seventh inning, striking out one.  Ben Ancheff pitched the eighth and ninth inning, allowing two hits and one unearned run with two outs in the ninth.
 
Offensively, the Bobcats scored six runs on five hits led by Cesar Ramirez who went 2-3 with a double, two runs scored, a stolen base and a walk. 
 
The Bobcats scored two runs in the second on a pair of sacrifice-fly RBIs by Jack Diaz and Michael Centeno, scoring Ramirez and Kendrick Gutierrez respectively.  The Bobcats scored three more runs in the fourth on an error and two wild pitches.  German Morales stole home on a double-steal play in the sixth to make the score 6-0.
 
St. Thomas returns to action with a trip to West Palm Beach to face Keiser in a non-conference road game.  Conference play then continues on Friday with the start of a three-game series vs. Ave Maria at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.
