BOBCATS STAY ALIVE AND ADVANCE TO FINAL ROUND OF TSC CHAMPIONSHIP

Box Score FORT MYERS, Fla.- St. Thomas (34-19, 16-8 TSC) defeats Webber International University (33-20, 17-8 TSC) by a score of 11-5 on Sunday May 8th in Sun Conference Championship at City of Palms Park.
 
St. Thomas fell behind early, allowing three runs in the first, but responded with a two run second off a RBI double from Steven Fischer scoring German Morales and a RBI single from Jose Gomez scoring Bryan Bermudez. The Bobcats continued to pile on the runs scoring in five consecutive innings, starting in the fourth with a Cesar Ramirez RBI double scoring Bermudez and then in the fifth with an Adam Duarte RBI triple scoring Kendrick Gutierrez.
 
In the sixth, the Bobcats got a run off a throwing error scoring Bermudez, and then Oscar Aguirre RBI single added another run when Ramirez scored. St. Thomas really turned it on after Webber scored two in the seventh, making it a 6-5 game. The Bobcats responded with two runs of their own from a Michael Centeno double and Fischer single scoring Duarte and Centeno. In the eighth, STU added three more runs thanks to a Gutierrez two RBI double scoring Oscar Rodriguez. The Bobcats got one more run off a sacrifice fly from Morales scoring Gutierrez. 
 
Alex Hernandez started the game for the Bobcats. After a shaky start, Hernandez settled in allowing five runs on eight hits and three strikeouts through six and one-third innings. Tyeler Checkley came in to relieve Hernandez and gave St. Thomas two and two-thirds innings of scoreless baseball only allowing two hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
 
Up next for St. Thomas is another must win scenario in the championship round tomorrow at 11 a.m. Bobcats await the winner of Kesier and USCB to determine who they will be playing.
