AVE MARIA, Fla. – No. 18 St. Thomas (3-5, 3-1 TSC) swept host Ave Maria (0-6, 0-5 TSC) on Wednesday in a rain-shortened Sun Conference match up.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play.
Kevin Cubela and
Mauricio Fernandez won in number one doubles 8-5, while the teams of
Dimitri Bird/
Jermaine Le Grand (no. 2 doubles) and
Juan Carlos Villamizar-Abia/
Jacobo Nieto (no. 3 doubles) each won 8-2.
Nieto was granted a win via forfeit in number six singles, then Bird won in number four singles 6-1, 6-2 before the rain came ending the match. The Bobcats had already clinched the match with the required five wins as a team.
St. Thomas returns to action on Saturday with a home match vs. Southeastern scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start at the STU Tennis Courts.
