BOBCATS WIN SHOOTOUT AT BARRY

Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla -- St. Thomas (24-9) defeated NCAA Division II Barry University (14-14) 18-14 in a crazy, rollercoaster of a win for a thrilling road game on Tuesday night.

The Bobcats jumped ahead 4-0 in the first inning on RBI hits by Oscar Rodriguez and Randy Oliva. In the second inning, the Bobcats added four more runs highlighted by a Rodriguez single that drove in Michael Sanchez and Orlando Rivera. After the Bucs made it 8-2 in the bottom of the second, STU rallied for three more runs, two of those coming off the powerful bat of Michael Centeno with a two-run homer to left. Centeno continues his rampage in the home run department.

The early runs would be crucial for St. Thomas as Barry made a comeback. After the sixth inning, a once 11-2 lead flipped in favor of the Bucs, 12-11. With momentum favoring their opponent, the resilient Bobcats struck in the eighth inning. Centeno put his team on his back and hit his second homer of the game to tie the game at 12. Brandon Paez singled home Rodriguez to retake the lead. Sanchez doubled in two runs, Rivera singled home Paez and Sanchez, and Centeno finished off the night with an RBI double to put the Bobcats ahead 18-12.

Brandon Valentin finished off the night for STU as the Bobcats clawed out their 24th win of the season for a final of 18-14.

STU continues action this weekend in a Sun Conference series at Warner on Friday.
