BOBCATS STAY ALIVE WITH 4-1 WIN OVER THOMAS AT TSC CHAMPS

Box Score FORT MYERS, Fla. - No. 4 seed St. Thomas (35-16) stayed alive in The Sun Conference Championship Tournament with a 4-1 win over sixth seeded Thomas (25-32) Saturday afternoon at City of Palms Park.  With the win, the Bobcats advance to play top seeded Keiser on Sunday at 3 p.m. in an elimination game for both teams.

Starting pitcher Chris Rodriguez (8-2) threw a complete-game gem, allowing just one run on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks.  Rodriguez shut out the Night Hawks for the first five innings, before TU scored its lone run in the sixth. 

Centerfielder Orlando Rivera went 3-5 and scored three of STU's four runs.  Rivera got the St. Thomas offense going in the bottom of the first with a single, before scoring on an RBI-single by Randy Oliva.  STU then went up 2-0 in the third inning on a double-steal play whereby Rivera stole home and James Spatafora stole second.  Another Rivera run would make the score 3-0 on an RBI-single by David Palenzuela in the bottom of the fifth.

Palenzuela then scored on an RBI-single by Jose Brito to give the Bobcats a 4-0 lead as Rodriguez continued to keep the Night Hawks in check.

Oliva (2-4, RBI), Brito (2-4, RBI) and Oscar Rodriguez (2-4) all recorded two-hit games as the Bobcats out-hit the Night Hawks 11-4.  Neither team recorded an extra-base hit in the contest.
