eBOBCATS HEADED TO REGIONALS WITH WIN OVER UTA

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas University's eSports team (5-2, 17-15 South Region) defeated the University of Texas-Arlington, 3-1 on Monday night from the Fernandez Family Center eSports lab.

The win officially clinched St. Thomas a bid to the regional tournament for "Hearthstone" in the inaugural season of eSports for STU.

St. Thomas took early control in the match against the University of Texas-Arlington, as the eBobcats won the initial two sets of the game. STU used their "Hunter" and "Shamin" decks to defeat the UTA "Rogue" deck in consecutive sets.

St. Thomas led the match 2-0 and put themselves in a position to clinch the regional bid as the played a "Priest" deck, once again against the "Rogue" from UTA. The "Rogue", as an agro-deck, defeated the STU "Priest", as the "priest" does not play well against ago-decks. UTA recognized that their season was on the line and came aggressive to stay alive against the eBobcats.

The fourth set saw the eBobcats play their "Priest" deck once again as UTA used their "Warlock". The STU "Priest" was better suited to sustain an early attack by the "Warlock" as the STU bided their time and waited to have enough attacking strength, and benefitted from a lucky double-damage spell, as STU claimed victory by dismantling the "Warlock".

The win has moved St. Thomas into regional play and into the postseason for "Hearthstone", as the team is now ranked 38th out of 88-teams in the South Region.

Regional play begins Saturday, November 17th and runs through Sunday, November 18th as St. Thomas will battle in four matches on both days to continue their season and advance into Super Regional play.
