Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The 21
st ranked St. Thomas University Men's Tennis team made the short trip to Miami Shores on Tuesday where the Bobcats faced host Barry University, the number two ranked team in NCAA Division II.
Depsite a 7-2 team loss, the Bobcats were highly competitive throughout the match highlighted by wins by STU's
Rasmus Lindstrom and
Dimitri Bird in singles play.
Lindstrom defeated Barry's no. 1 player Fernando Tous 5-4 (retired) to win number one singles. Lindstrom trailed Tous early on in the set before battling back to tie the score 4-4. Lindstrom then won the next game to take a 5-4 lead before Tous defaulted to give the Bobcats the win in number one singles.
Bird won in number three singles over Filip Zupancic in a thrilled that went to a thrilling tiebreaker. In a back-and-forth battle, Bird prevailed 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).
Barry took a 3-0 lead after doubles play despite a competitive showing by STU's number two doubles team of Lindstrom and Francisco Velasquez in a 8-4 defeat.
Next up for the Bobcats is another road match against an NCAA DII opponent as STU travels to West Palm Beach to face Palm Beach Atlantic at 4 p.m. on Thursday. The Bobcats will then return to Sun Conference play when they host Warner on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the STU Tennis Courts.
