LAKELAND, Fla. - No. 21 St. Thomas University (18-3, 5-1 TSC) continued to roll during the Spring Break "Spring Rake" trip taking both games of the Monday doubleheader against St. Xavier University (5-9) in Tigertown by scores of 3-2 and 8-6.
In the game one win for the Bobcats, Sawyer Losey started on the mound for the Bobcats. Losey pitched five innings, striking out four, allowing only one run on five hits. The performance earned Losey his first career St. Thomas University win. Alex Sarmiento entered the game in the sixth inning in relief and would pitch three innings only allowing one hit while striking out three. After Sarmiento's performance, Tyeler Checkley came in to pitch the ninth inning to earn the save for the Bobcats and closed out the win.
The St. Thomas offense was led by the bats of Chris Garabedian and Elih Marrero. Garabedian went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Marrero went 3-for-4 with a double. Garabedian opened the scoring in the game with a first inning sacrifice fly, Garabedian would add his second RBI on a third inning double.  In what became a difficult decision for the Golden Rake award, the committee decided to award the rake to Marrero in what was his first nomination for the award.
Game two of the doubleheader also went in favor of the Bobcats as STU was able to sweep the two games. Danger Guevara made his first start of the season for St. Thomas going four and a third innings, allowing four runs and getting one strikeout. Miguel Rodriguez and Jose Pupo pitched in relief asPupo earned his first save of the season.
The St. Thomas offense received contributions all over the lineup as 12 hits were totaled on the game as the action got started on a Sergio Lopez (1-3, Solo HR) home run in the second inning. In what was just a seven inning game, the Bobcats offense was able to score in every inning but the first en route to the 8-6 win. Jackie Urbaez (2-4, 2 R), Garabedian (2-4, 3 RBI), Randy Oliva (2-3, RBI) and Daniel Lowry (3-3, Triple, 3 R) all had multi-hit efforts for STU. Lowry with his three hit day, including a triple was yet another player to record his first golden rake nomination as well.
Up next for the Bobcats is the conclusion of the series against Saint Xavier University at Tigertown on Tuesday, March 6th with the game starting at 12 p.m.
