MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - The fifth ranked St. Thomas University (39-4, 17-1 TSC) defeated NCAA Division II Palm Beach Atlantic (20-17) by a score of 11-5 late Tuesday night at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.  It marked the 13th straight win for the Bobcats matching the team's season-high for consecutive victories.
After falling behind 3-0 in the first inning, St. Thomas responded with runs in the second through fifth innings to take an 8-5 lead.
Daniel Lowry (2-4, 2 RBI) opened the scoring for the Bobcats with a bases-loaded double that brought in Nelson Mompierre and
Oscar Rodriguez (2-2, RBI) to cut the Sailfish lead to 3-2.
PBA added a single run in the third inning to create a 4-2 lead, which did not last long as STU put another two runs on the board as Jackie Urbaez scored on a passed ball and Rodriguez tied the game with a single to right field to plate Mompierre. Urbaez later singled in Erick Delgado to give the Bobcats their first lead in the fourth inning.Â
Randy Oliva (3-4, 3-R HR, 3 RBI, 2 R) extended the STU lead with a three-run home run in the fifth inning for his sixth home run of the season to push the Bobcats lead to 8-4. Elih Marrero came up to hit in the seventh inning in an 8-5 game with the bases loaded and two outs and un-loaded the bases with a three RBI double to give the Bobcats an 11-5 lead and have the offense score double digit runs once again
The pitching staff for the Bobcats combined to limit the Sailfish to five runs as eight pitchers threw in the game.
