#5 STU HOMERS ITS WAY TO SWEEP OVER WARNER

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The fifth ranked St. Thomas University Bobcats (38-4, 17-1 TSC) swept the doubleheader over Warner University (23-20, 5-13 TSC) with scores of 22-3 and 13-5 on Saturday afternoon at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.  St. Thomas has now won 12 straight and 25 of the last 26 games.

The Bobcats hit nine home runs on the day, including seven homers in game one of the doubleheader.  Nelson Mompierre and Erick Delgado each hit two homers in game one. Delgado added his third home run of the day in game two.

The Bobcats jumped out to an early 5-0 lead off the strength of a lead-off home run from Delgado, a two-run home run from Mompierre, a Sergio Lopez (2-3, 5 RBI) RBI single, and a Randy Oliva RBI double down the left-field line. St. Thomas then added back-to-back innings with seven runs in each in the third and fourth innings to break the game open even further before only scoring three in the sixth inning to increase the lead to 22-3.

The home run parade started from the first inning and continued throughout the game. Delgado (4-6, Solo HR, 3 R, 2 RBI) led off the game with his third home run of the season in what was his first of two home runs on the game, three for the day.  Mompierre (5-6, 2-R HR, 6 RBI, 2 R) followed Delgado's lead-off home run with a two-run shot of his own into the batting cages in left field for his ninth of the season, in what was a two-homer day for Mompierre as well.

In addition to the two home run performances from Delgado and Mompierre, Lopez (2-3, 3-R, 5 RBI), Jackie Urbaez (2-3, 2-R HR, 3 R), and Daniel Lowry (4-5, 3-R HR, 2 R) all added home runs as well. For Lowry, the home run marked his first career collegiate home run. All five of these players combined to go (17-23, 7 HR, 18 RBI, 12 R) to all earn the first ever multi-Golden Rake award nominations for one game.

Chris Rodriguez (7-0) earned his seventh win of the season, pitching five innings with five strikeouts allowing five hits and three earned runs. Jose Pupo pitched the final two innings adding one strikeout.

In the series finale, the Bobcats didn't miss a beat, getting out to another early lead, as they scored 7 runs in the first inning. As Delgado once again led the game off with a solo home run to left field. Oscar Rodriguez (1-5, 2 RBI) extended the STU lead to 4-0 in the first inning as he hit a bases loaded double, plating Mompierre and Chris Garabedian (1-3, 3-R HR, 4 RBI, 2 R).

Warner responded with a four-run fourth inning to cut the Bobcats lead to 7-4, before St. Thomas rallied with a three-run bottom half as Garabedian launched his second home run of the season over the left-center field fence to give STU a 10-4 lead.

Ian Exposito (7-0) also earned his seventh win of the season, pitching five and a third innings with six strikeouts, allowing five earned runs. Alex Sarmiento added an inning and two thirds out of the bullpen with two double plays to get out of two jams. Tyler Morales pitched the final two innings in perfect fashion as he retired all six Royals he faced with three strikeouts.

Up next, the #5 St. Thomas University Bobcats take on NCAA Division II Palm Beach Atlantic ton Tuesday, April 10th at Paul Demie Mainieri Field with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
