AVE MARIA, Fla. (November 7, 2020) – St. Thomas University (STU) Cross Country raced in The Sun Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday morning. The Bobcats Men's team placed 7th and ran an eight-kilometer race, and the Women's team placed 5th while running a five-kilometer race.
Jonathan Memnon paced the men's team, placing 6th, with an average mile time of 5:34 and finishing at 27:40. With his sixth-place finish in the Sun Conference Championship meet, Memon earned a trip to the NAIA National Championship Race in Cedar Rapids, IA., on April 9. Joseph Montes (13th/28:18), Peterley Louis (33rd/30:14), Adam Kamel (42nd/32:20), and Benjamin Guerrero (49th/35:30). Overall, the Men's team averaged a 6:09-minute mile. Memnon and Montes both were named to All-Conference teams, as Memnon and Montes earned First and Second-Team recognition, respectively.
Calyope Ortega was the first finisher for the Bobcats, placing 15th with a time of 21:02. Lesly Marcin finished the race right after Ortega, completing the 5-kilometer race in 21:06. Sofia Naya and Emily Holzer placed 29th and 30th, with times of 22:45 and 22:46, respectively. Alessandra Barquin was the fifth finisher for St. Thomas, completing the race in 27:51.
The Sun Conference Championship Meet concludes the Fall season for St. Thomas University.
